Elektrobit (EB) selects the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor for its next generation device platform

EB has chosen the Qualcomm® Snapdragon(TM) 801 chipset for its next-generation device platform. The new processor will be integrated into advanced LTE devices targeted at public safety, cyber-security and other professional markets.

OULU, Finland, July 22, 2014 - Elektrobit (EB) announced today it will collaborate with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, to feature the Qualcomm® Snapdragon(TM) 801 processor in the new version of its EB Specialized Device Platform (SDP), which will be commercially available later this year. The device platform enables customer-specific tailoring of smartphones, tablets and other products, targeted primarily for professional applications in public safety, mobile satellite services and cyber-security.

EB plans to utilize the Snapdragon 810 processor in different wireless products that will be customized based on EB's product platform. EB has already created a variety of device concepts, which illustrate the possibilities that the platform and customer-specific tailoring can offer. The wide range of models can vary from thin smartphones to fully ruggedized and water-proof special devices that are designed for extremely demanding environments. The Snapdragon 801 processor includes leading edge features in mobile technology and is used in many smartphones released by leading mobile phone manufacturers.

"EB is one of the leading developers of specialized terminal devices and we chose Qualcomm Technologies to be our supplier as they are the technology leader in the development of LTE chipsets. We are better equipped to serve our customers in tailoring and manufacturing unique mobile products. This will further strengthen our position as a leading developer and supplier of most advanced mobile devices, particularly for public safety and cyber-security markets," says Hannu Huttunen, Vice President of EB's Wireless Business Segment.

EB will present its products at the APCO 2014 public safety exhibition on August 3-6 in New Orleans, LA, United States. At the exhibition, EB will demonstrate its reference Smart Phone, ruggedized tablet, LTE connectivity module and product concepts that are based on the EB Specialized Device Platform (SDP). EB's product portfolio can be viewed at exhibition stand #756.
